Hotline On Call: Boehner: Immigration Bill Is “Piece Of Shit”
House Minority Leader John Boehner, speaking to a private gathering of Republican activists last night, called the Senate’s immigration compromise bill a “piece of shit” but said that he had promised President Bush earlier in the day that he would let his teeth be a barrier to such thoughts in public.

Boehner spoke last night at a small reception for the Republican Rapid Responders on Capitol Hill.

“I promised the President today that I wouldn’t say anything bad about … this piece of shit bill,” he said, according to two attendees.

Love it.

As you read this remember that it is in the United States of America.

A political novice in a tiny city of Mexican immigrants that hasn’t had an election since 1999, Mendoza had expected dirty tricks. But to his dismay, the caller, who spoke poor English and called every day for three days, said Mendoza would be killed if he did not leave Cudahy, a 1.2-square-mile city 10 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles. After the third call, Mendoza pulled out of the March 6 race. “I have my family to think about,” he said.

Running for council seats against a slate of incumbents in a city infested with gangs and drugs, Danny Cota and Luis Garcia faced similar tactics. A truck owned by Garcia, a former city employee, was painted with graffiti, and ex-felon and Cudahy city employee Gerardo Vallejo sought a restraining order against Garcia for criminal threats. A judge tossed the complaint, but Garcia’s campaign was rattled.

In late December, at a holiday gathering at the City Club in downtown Los Angeles hosted by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Cota ran into Bell Gardens City Councilman Mario Beltran, who was perplexed to see Cota, a 29-year-old teacher, hobnobbing and being photographed with Villaraigosa and others.

“Who brought him here?” Councilman Beltran asked onlookers, some of whom are friends of Cudahy’s Vice Mayor, Osvaldo Conde, who is running for re-election. “You better watch out,” Beltran warned Cota, the bright-eyed challenger. “Conde will take care of you with his cuerno de chivo.”

Though Beltran was smiling as he tossed off some Mexican slang for an AK-47, Cota says he did not appreciate such talk. A witness, Maywood Mayor Sergio Calderon, a friend of Cota’s, says, “It was a joke, a tasteless joke.”

Cudahy is a strange little city; some say a scary one. In 2003, city leaders fired the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department — which had policed Cudahy for 14 years, focusing on gang and drug crime — in favor of a nearby municipal police force that recently erupted over public allegations of police brutality and kickbacks to police and city officials from a towing company.

By most accounts, Cudahy City Council members — two retired union managers, an insurance salesman, a waitress and a grocer — do not run the city as they were elected to do. Rather, they defer to City Manager Perez, a former janitor who is known to favor revenue traps such as DUI and driver’s license checkpoints over aggressive tactics that make gangs and drug dealers less comfortable.

This is the kind of place where we need to send in the national guard and clean up. Fired the county sheriffs? WTF???? How can you even do that?

A U.S. Border Patrol entry Identification Team site was overrun Wednesday night along Arizona’s border with Mexico.

According to the Border Patrol, an unknown number of gunmen attacked the site in the state’s West Desert Region around 11 p.m. The site is manned by National Guardsmen. Those guardsmen were forced to retreat.

The Border Patrol will not say whether shots were fired. However, no Guardsmen were injured in the incident.

The Border Patrol says the incident occurred somewhere along the 120 mile section of the border between Nogales and Lukeville. The area is known as a drug corridor. Last year, 124-thousand pounds of illegal drugs were confiscated in this area.

The Border patrol says the attackers quickly retreated back into Mexico.

The 28,000 residents of Maywood, CA – a small town of just over one mile square that proudly proclaims itself 96% Hispanic – are experienced at defending themselves from oppression. The “Maywood revolution” began last fall, when residents rose up against their police chief, who routinely had used roadblocks to confiscate the vehicles of undocumented immigrants and sell the cars for public revenue. Maywoodians threw out their city council and mayor in the November elections, an election in which nearly 100% of eligible voters cast ballots, and replaced them with representatives who promptly disbanded the police traffic division, demanded an audit of LAUSD, denounced the Sensenbrenner anti-immigrant resolution (this comment here turns this “news” article into a biased editorial), endorsed drivers licenses for all residents, and proclaimed Maywood a sanctuary city, where the police would no longer check immigration or citizenship status.

At first read it leaves me speechless.
But only for a little bit.
WTF? then comes to mind.
This is flat out rebellion. And since so many of the “citizens” of that city are foreign nationals - it makes it an invasion.
The idiot, racists, fundie dumbasses that organize the protests against such things are taking away from the reality of it being a bad thing.
The SOS are idiots granted - but look at the facts being presented in the rest of the article.
Respect the laws of the fucking country you live in! It is not your fucking country because you have illegally come over en mass and now constitute a majority of the town you’ve chosen to invade.

It’s time to move in the National Guard and clean that town the fuck up.

Clutching American flags and signs that read “America was formed by immigrants,” more than 300 protesters on Saturday denounced a city proposal that would prohibit landlords from leasing to illegal immigrants. About two dozen counter-protesters staged a demonstration nearby.

The proposal by City Councilman Tim O’Hare would also make it tougher for illegal immigrants to work in the Dallas suburb, penalize businesses that employ undocumented workers and make English the city’s official language.

Protesters branded the proposal a racist initiative that would single out Hispanics, who make up about 37 percent of the city’s population, according to U.S. Census Bureau figures from 2000.

“If we’re of a certain color, they’re going to point their finger at us,” said Jose Gomez, a 42-year-old naturalized citizen.

Organizers of the rally emphasized that immigrants, regardless of status, pay taxes when they shop, rent or buy a home in Farmers Branch.

Families with children and college students rallied in temperatures topping 100 degrees.

O’Hare, who was not seen at the rally, and a city spokesman did not immediately return calls to The Associated Press.

Counter-protesters carried signs reading “I place all persons in the USA illegally under citizen’s arrest” and “Como se Dice illegal en Espanol?”, which translates to “How do you say illegal in Spanish?”

Supporters of the proposal said the measure would address problems with health care, education and crime in the city.

“They’re taking our jobs, our homes,” said Debbie Rawlins, 48. “There’s unemployment partly because of the Hispanics. The lady that took my jobis Hispanic and she’s bilingual.”

City Council members heard from constituents earlier this week on whether Farmers Branch should approve the measures, but no decision was made.

WTF? The gall of those folks. And the knee-jerk reactionism. The key term here is ILLEGAL. I applaude someone trying to do SOMETHING about it. What in the hell is wrong with trying to make it more difficult for people that are here ILLEGALLY to function in a community?????????????

"I think the national anthem ought to be sung in English, and I think people who want to be a citizen of this country ought to learn English and they ought to learn to sing the national anthem in English."

He made his remarks on the matters during a wide-ranging briefing with reporters.

"I think people who want to be citizens of this country ought to learn English," Bush said.

A backlash is forming. Things are probably gonna get nasty in the short term.

I know I'm getting pretty pissed off at this mexican flag waving, non-english speaking bullshit.

I have always been tolerant and welcoming but really.... I'm sick of it.
