Bush veto of troop-withdrawal measure stands - MarketWatch
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — President Bush’s veto of a war-spending bill that called for the withdrawal of most U.S. troops from Iraq will stand.
The Democratic-controlled House voted 222-203 to override the veto, falling well short of the required two-thirds supermajority. The outcome was no surprise since the bill initially passed the House by a narrow margin last week, and Democratic leaders in the Senate were unlikely to call for a vote given the House action.
Bush was due to meet with top congressional Democrats and Republicans later Wednesday afternoon in an effort to begin work toward a compromise.

How sad. Bush’s rape of America and the world continues unabated.

Congress is more to blame, here. They've still not addressed their own abdication of their Constitutional duties. If they really wanted the "war" over and done with, they should not have allowed their power to be used and abused in the first place.

I get tired of the vilification of one man, when the true fault lies with those who make the laws. I'm tired of intervening in other nations' affairs as much as anyone, but the difference is that I'm not taking sides in the battle of evil legislative versus evil executive.

The reality is that ANYONE who was serving in Congress when this all began should resign and exile his or herself in abject shame. THOSE are the accountable ones.

Yes - they are to blame as well. But Bush is the initiator and the "decider". Congress whines and rolls over - but Bush is spearheading this crap. He deserves vilification.
And I'm not really taking sides - Bush is just a deserving target.

To be fair, Congress could simply refuse to pass ANY spending bill until he gave in. THAT is what they ought to do. No spending means no war and no funds until he is willing to allow Congress to speak for the people. It would be hard on a lot of people, but standing up for principles in a government devoid of them usually is hard.
