Any hope we may have of keeping government, industry and criminals out of our personal business is scheduled to vanish completely in 18 months, privacy advocates say.

That’s when the federal government’s Real ID Act is to be fully in place, effectively setting up a national identification program by requiring states to adopt strict new high-tech standards for driver’s licenses and ID cards if they are to be accepted by federal authorities at places ranging from airports to U.S. courthouses.

I wonder how long you could get away with not having a "real id"... because I won't be ready to leave yet in 18 months.

I know you're not leaving, and I'm not saying you should, I'm just tired of this place and I want to find out personally what things are like elsewhere. I just got turned down for a job in Japan. Next time...

We had a decent beginning, too! One full of the best intentions. Founded by the wisest of freedom fighters and philosophs.

Yeah - I've been wondering for a long time what I'm gonna do. We're already all trackable and have national databases on us so this is just adding insult to injury. I have some places to go outside the US if I have to but I think I've pretty much decided that I'm going to defend what was set up and fight the good fight.
