Obama Calls for Universal Health Care within Six Years

WASHINGTON — Every American should have health care coverage within six years, Democratic Sen. Barack Obama said Thursday as he set an ambitious goal soon after jumping into the 2008 presidential race.

“I am absolutely determined that by the end of the first term of the next president, we should have universal health care in this country,” Obama told a conference of Families USA, a health care advocacy group.

Be very interesting to see where this goes and what his ideas to accomplish it are.

support people not able or willing to support themselves? are you nuts? are you stupid? I know people that pay 100 bucks a month and that is with a 5 grand deductible. do you think this makes sense? in one of the richest countries in the world why do people have to pay for heathcare? half the rest of the world gets it free, hell even communist countries get it free. how can you in your right mind argue against this?

Do you understand what communism is? Of course communist countries have universal healthcare; that's what communism is about. In contrast, the United States is not a communist nation.

You state that the richest nation in the world should not have to pay for healthcare. Someone has to pay, though. Who do you propose pays? What would be fair? The standard answer seems to be "let the evil rich pay for it". If you believe that, then you believe that your desire to have health care trumps the personal liberties of another human being. You are, in effect, willing to hold a gun to someone's head to take money that should be their exclusive property.

I can argue against universal healthcare because I can look past the happy, feel good idea of "look, free healthcare". When you say "free healthcare", what you're really saying is "healthcare that I can make other people pay for".

Right now, the rest of the world hates the U.S. because we have intervened in their affairs. If we pulled out our troops from every nation, reinstitiuted a policy of neutrality, and generally minded our business, we'd be hated for less justifed reasons.

With the collapse of Social security on the horizon as all of the Baby-Boomers retire, these deomcratic jackasses in washington want to create a national health care system? Actually, I hope Hillary wins the next election. The SS collapse will happen in the next 6 years, and I would LOVE to see her crucified for it.
