2006

Jan. 3rd, 2006 12:57 pm
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Mine was mixed. It was nice to be able to spend time with all my family - including my sister - but I was pointedly alone.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do with 2006. I have absolutely nothing in my mind as to what I'm going to do with the year. No goals set, no trips planned, nothing at all. This is the first time ever that I didn't make resolutions. I'll make a few now....
- No pursuing guys. If any ask me out and I'm interested then fine - otherwise I just won't go out. And also - not to pursue once we've gone out. They will if interested.
- No continuing to be nice regardless of what happens - a little "get what you give" is going to come into play.
- Start thinking of myself first and then continue to do so instead of focusing on making everyone else happy and/or taking care of them.
- Try and learn how to like being a hermit.
- Learn how to say goodbye and mean it.
- Learn how to live without closure.
- Find a co-ed softball league and play. The weight loss is going great but I need some exercise and it's a good social outlet.

Have a great year, folks. [optimism] It's got to be better then 2005, right? [/optimism]

Pope says terrorism, nihilism and fundamentalism threaten peace
11:41:03 EST Jan 1, 2006

VATICAN CITY (AP) - Pope Benedict XVI warned Sunday that terrorism, nihilism and "fanatic fundamentalism" threatened world peace and called for individuals, governments and institutions to work together to combat them.

Benedict made the appeal during a Mass in St. Peter's Basilica to mark New Year's Day, which the Catholic Church celebrates annually as its World Day of Peace.

In his homily, the pope said a "shock" of courage and faith in God was necessary to spread peace, and that everyone must work together to combat the threats to it.

"It becomes ever more important to work together for peace when confronting the situations of injustice and violence that continue to oppress various parts of the world, those that are the new and most insidious threats to peace: terrorism, nihilism and fanatic fundamentalism," he said.

Benedict said individuals and entire populations, international organizations like the United Nations as well as world powers must assume their responsibilities to promote values of justice, solidarity and peace in the world.
