Paramount Wants More Picard
Another TNG film coming soon?

by Paul Davidson

January 10, 2006 - Paramount Pictures really wants Patrick Stewart, Trek's Captain Picard, to take his position on the bridge again for Star Trek XI, the actor told Yahoo News.

However, while Stewart does not say outright he rejected the offer, he thinks he'll be too old for the part by the time production actually gets rolling. "Weighty people in Hollywood have come up with a very interesting proposition. But they told me it was still two, three or four years down the road, by which time I would only be able to sit in the captain's chair and not have the energy to get out of it!"

It seems unlikely at this time that the 65-year-old actor will return to the Enterprise. Is plan B, then, the much-rumoured prequel film we've been hearing about? Or has Paramount determined to boldly push forward with more Next Generation-era movies? The loss of Picard and Data could undermine audience interest in such a film, but perhaps Riker will get his chance at the captaincy after all. When more information is available, we'll let you know.
