VOA News - Iraq Funding Bill Vetoed by Bush
President Bush has vetoed more than $124 billion worth of funding for wars in Afghanistan and Iraq because the measure includes a timetable for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. VOA White House Correspondent Scott Stearns has the story.

Not a surprise. Unfortunately. He’s an arrogant SOB with ratings in the toilet and Congress united against him. Time to impeach on any of the multitude of things he’s done wrong.

Arrogant, maybe, but also, so very unaware of how lacking in ability he really is.

For impeachment, you can't simply do so because you disagree with his decisions.

You have to find solid evidence of a bona fide crime or treason, and that evidence needs to be sufficiently solid such that there is a realistic likelihood that he could be tried and convicted by a jury of the house and senate alike.

The problem is that the things he's done which fit as crimes or treason are not, individually, impeachable by a large enough group of Senators and Representatives.

Bush's worst crime is that he's a poor HR person. He hired and trusted the wrong people. His own, personal judgement is inadequate for the type and level of position he now holds. Unfortunately, that's not illegal in the US.

Indeed. He's inept to be sure. One thing he does seem to have going for him is some clever Constitutional lawyers. Those folks allow him to rape the Constitution without it being blatantly illegal. Congress needs to impeach him for lying about the reasons for invading Iraq. I think that could stick.
Maybe the best bet is to gather up a multitude of things that will be brought against him and then make it clear that he's going to be steam-rolled and paralyzed by them if he doesn't resign.

So... is Congress going to impeach itself as well? To me, this is a bit like a pedophile pointing the finger at a rapist and saying "you dirty bastard"!

So you'd REALISTICALLY suggest that they just drop it because they have some guilt as well? Righteous indignation is fine but the people have already had the chance to vote on their Congressional representation. Our only recourse at present to stop this abuse would seem to be impeachment.

No, I suggest that they all resign in shame. Bush is done in a year and a half, but we're stuck with some of those guys and gals for what is quite possibly decades.

By your assertion, people have also spoken on who they wanted as president. I know who I voted for, but if the overall majority wants someone with no respect for the Constitution, they're going to get someone with no respect for the Constitution.

Inarguably, that will be the case regardless of which side wins in 2008... so no worries there. If a Democrat wins, the bile will just switch sides... Democrats will be busy defending the transgressions of the Beloved Leader, and Republicans will be spewing hate. Same stuff, different team.

Impeach him for what crime? Unlike Clinton, he didn't lie to Congress under oath. He may be violating the Constitution, but he isn't doing so any more than our last few presidents.

Well I mean - they aren't all going to resign in shame. None of them are. But if they can do something to get rid of this guy for his Constitution trampling I'm for it. Putting up with another year and a half of his reign is going to be very tough to handle.
He lied about the reasons for going to war. Almost half a trillion dollars and tens of thousands of lives ended or ruined. That's plenty crime enough.

But he didn't lie about the reasons for invading Iraq. Lying means to knowingly convey false information.

So far as I know, he, personally, did not know the information to be false until after it was conveyed.
