Bush nominated a dude. That leaves one woman on the Supreme Court. And yes - it is an issue. 8 Men and 1 Woman is not representative of the country and its views.
The field of potential nominees I saw was 6 women and 4 men. Naturally he picks a man. Fucker.

Samuel Alito

He has served on the federal appeals court since his nomination by then-president George H.W. Bush in 1990. The year after he assumed his spot on the appeals court bench, he voted to uphold all restrictions on abortion in Pennsylvania law.

The ruling on those restrictions, which required a woman to notify her husband before an abortion, was subsequently struck down by the Supreme Court in a decision that reaffirmed America's landmark Roe v Wade case.

At least he didn't nominate Janice Rogers-Brown or Priscilla Owen. That would have been a tough call, because while both are women, they are also arguably utterly batshit crazy.

I hoped it would be Maura Corrigan, Michigan Supreme Court justice. Staunch conservative, so that would assuage the wingnuts, but she has no record on abortion, so that gives hope to the sane side. I don't mind a Scalia-esque strict constructionist justice, provided they are basically sane, intelligent, and well versed in legal precedent. (Sadly, Scalia is not basically sane.)

Of course, in my dreams it was Edith Clement, who is pro-choice and opposes the death penalty, but that's pie in the sky. Pee-Wee Herman would have a better chance of winning that confirmation.

Alito is Scalia's bagrat. If confirmed, that would bring the number of Scalia clones on the bench to three (Scalia, Thomas, Alito). We do NOT need this, America.
