Dear Senators Cornyn & Hutchison and Representative Hensarling,

I’m writing to all three of you because I am concerned about the Military
Commissions Act of 2006 which you all voted yes on in your respective
chambers.

I’m very concerned that we are going down a slippery slope.

I am, of course, all for as safe a country as we can have - but it needs
to be within the bounds of the ideals of our country.

We are supposed to be the shining beacon of freedom.  We are supposed to
be the good guys.  We are supposed to be the people that do the right
thing - regardless of the cost.  We are supposed to be the heroes.

Any suspension of habeus corpus, whether it can be construed to apply to
US citizens or just to non-nationals, is a giant red flag of dishonor.

This principle is the rock on which free nations are built.

This bill is a bad act overall.  It gives far too much power to the
Executive branch and also provides far too little oversite.

I realize that the President hasn’t signed it yet (for reasons that I
assume are related to the constitutionality of it) so I urge you all to
please re-consider your positions and do the right thing by withdrawing
your support (vocally if nothing else).

If you feel your full support of this bill is still in the country's best
interest I’d certainly appreciate an explanation as to why.
