The Bible: what is it good for?

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,564-1812166,00.html

The Roman Catholic Church has instructed the faithful that some parts of the Bible are not actually true, and that they should not expect 'total accuracy' in Scripture.

Nothing new in the article, it is what most people have known for years. Although I guess there are some fundamentalists who really take it word for word. I think the church is just trying to make sure that their views are on record for those that don't really follow the church that closely. I did take a few theology courses back in my university days. They were actually very interesting, someday I shall have to take some more.

Well the newness is the public statement. I went to Catholic school for the first half of my life and got a lot of religion classes and such... It's always been a weird mishmash of science and doctrine....
I know far far far too many people that take it literally though - so even though I'm a retired Catholic it is good to hear.
